A LITTLE HISTORY OF PORCELAIN

Approximately 1000 years ago the Chinese made porcelain out of what was originally called pottery. It took 100’s of years to perfect the process of washing the clay, adding materials like kaolin and petuntse to make the clay able to withstand firing temperatures of roughly 1400 centigrade. Porcellana was what Marco Polo called a white ceramic he saw when he was in the orient in the 1500’s. the 16 and 1700’s saw porcelain imported and exported throughout Europe and regarded as a luxury item by Europe’s royalty.

THE LLADROS BROTHERS

Valencia Spain, is where it all started, brothers Juan, Jose, and Vincente built a kiln their backyard and began perfecting their techniques for glaze, fire time, pigments, mold, temperature, and for their own recipe for porcelain paste from which Lladros were born.Farming was what put food on the table for the Lladros family, but, their dream and ability drew them to study drawing (Juan and Jose) Vincente studied sculpting.

THE FIRST LLADROS SHOP
